The external beauty of the saint, as depicted in the icon, emphasises her inner spirituality and power. She carries a cross in her right hand to indicate in whose name she ministers, in her left hand a vessel containing healing balm. The tradition of painting her with a red undergarment and a green maphorion goes back a long way, even before 1730. The colour harmony is consistent with her spiritual integrity.
